Towards Sustainable Development in Vietnam: Resource Management in the Context of Climate Change

Introduction

Climate change is no longer a distant threat but an urgent reality that profoundly impacts Vietnam’s environment, economy, society, and cultural heritage. Rising temperatures, extreme weather events, saltwater intrusion, and the depletion of vital natural resources such as water, land, and forests are placing immense pressure on both ecosystems and communities. These challenges disproportionately affect vulnerable populations, including coastal residents, ethnic minorities, and those living in remote areas, intensifying existing socio-economic inequalities.

In response, sustainable resource management must go beyond technical solutions; it requires a holistic and interdisciplinary approach that integrates policy frameworks, economic resilience, and cultural preservation. The conference "Towards Sustainable Development in Vietnam: Resource Management in the Context of Climate Change" seeks to unite experts, policymakers, businesses, civil society organizations, and local communities in meaningful dialogue. Through collaborative discussions and knowledge sharing, the conference aims to develop innovative strategies that promote sustainability while ensuring social equity and economic viability.

The conference will address critical issues related to climate change and sustainable development in Vietnam. Discussions will focus on the degradation of natural resources, including water, forests, land, and biodiversity, as well as the increasing frequency of extreme weather events and their impacts on ecosystems and food security. Policy frameworks and technological innovations for environmental protection and green development will also be explored.

Another key theme is the socio-economic vulnerabilities of coastal, highland, and ethnic minority communities. The transition to sustainable agricultural and aquacultural models, along with policy interventions to support labor forces and vulnerable populations, will be examined.

Additionally, the conference will highlight the challenges of preserving cultural heritage in the face of environmental changes. Discussions will explore how climate change affects traditional lifestyles, the protection of cultural heritage sites, and the role of community engagement and education in fostering sustainability.

Lastly, the role of businesses and communities in sustainable development will be emphasized. Topics will include the adoption of green technologies and circular economy models, corporate social responsibility (CSR) in environmental protection, and grassroots participation in climate adaptation and mitigation efforts.

This conference will provide valuable interdisciplinary perspectives, fostering meaningful dialogue and collaboration to advance Vietnam’s sustainable development agenda through in-person discussions and engagement.
